This old standard was recorded on my iphone in a beautifully echoey stairwell in the old hospital on Chanate in Santa Rosa. I caught many a stray moment in this stairwell singing to myself and listening to the echoes.
lyrics
I'm just a poor wayfarin' stranger,
Travelin' through this world below.
There's no sickness, toil, nor danger,
In that bright land to which I go.
I'm goin' there to see my mother
I'm going there no more to roam
I'm just goin' over Jordan.
I'm only goin' over home.
I know dark clouds will gather 'round me,
I know my way is rough and steep.
But beauteous fields lay all before me,
Where spirits do their vigils keep.
I'm goin' there to see my Mother.
She said she'd meet me when I come.
So, I'm just goin' over Jordan.
I'm just goin' over home.
I want to wear a crown of glory
when I get home to that bright land
I want to sing salvation's story
in concert with that blood washed band
I'm goin' there to see my saviour.
I'm goin there no more to roam
So, I'm just goin' over Jordan.
I'm only goin' over home.
