I cared for a veteran with HepC cirrhosis who was transferred from Jail after having suffered a massive heart attack. He told one of the very attentive Cardiothoracic surgeons prior to slipping into a coma that he had contracted HepC, the disease that he felt was now killing him, from the bodies of fallen soldiers he had unloaded from planes coming home from Vietnam when he was in the service.
lyrics
I lift those bags up high above my head
Another home another dead
My muscles ache and body’s getting sore
But I can’t lay them down upon the cold floor
They’ll get e flag and they’ll shoot their guns off high
Be laid to rest and their mama’s will cry
You can’t see their blood staining my hands
its running deeper in my heart and my veins
In the early morning of my daily welcome home
I wake up and I’m still holding on to their bones
Oh those brothers I carried
They left me buried
My blood is seething with the ghosts I laid to rest
Tried to drown them out but they’re coming for me at last
